Boccherini: Cello Sonata in E-Flat Major, G.14 (arr. Piatigorsky)
Piatigorsky played a significant role in reviving interest in Boccherini, formerly a little-known 18th-century cellist-composer. With Piatigorsky’s encouragement, his mother-in-law, Baroness Germaine de Rothschild, published a biography of the composer (Oxford University Press, 1962). In the course of her research, Rothschild also sponsored musicologist Yves Gérard’s catalog of Boccherini’s works (using the letter G for Gérard). (ca. 1945)
